GEDI is pleased to announce an ongoing special issue in Environmental Research Letters (ERL) titled: “Focus on the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation: Research, Applications and Policy Implications”
This on-going collection focuses on the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) spaceborne lidar. This focus collection welcomes contributions of research letters exploring and assessing the use of GEDI Lidar for characterizing important carbon cycling processes, habitat for biodiversity, and related applications. Synergies of GEDI footprint and gridded Lidar data products with other spaceborne data are encouraged, including next generation missions such as NASA ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR), the Ice Cloud and Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2), the European BIOMASS mission, and the TanDEM-X and TanDEM-L SAR interferometry missions, among others. Synergies with other legacy satellite missions, such as the Landsat and Sentinel series of satellites are also encouraged. Research from the fusion of these various data streams, for example to produce wall-to-wall maps of canopy heights, biomass and other structure metrics, must include rigorous error and uncertainty assessments.
