Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to solicit submissions to the AGU Fall Meeting 2020 session “NASA’s Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) Mission: Instrument performance, data product validation and applications”. Please see the session description below. The deadline for abstracts is Wednesday, 29 July at 23:59 EDT. Abstracts can be submitted at: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm20/prelim.cgi/Session/105373. We’re excited to see a wide range of submissions highlighting early science results and novel applications of GEDI data.
NASA’s Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) Mission: Instrument performance, data product validation and applications
NASA’s Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) was launched December 5th 2018, science data acquisitions commenced April 18th 2019, and first data products were publicly released January 22nd 2020. As of April 2020, GEDI has collected over 5.5 billion surface returns, over 3 billion land surface returns and is expected to operate until at least April 2021. GEDI measurements have created new opportunities to map the three-dimensional structure of the global land surface at high spatial resolution including bare earth and sub-canopy topography, canopy height and plant area profiles, and aboveground biomass. Through multi-sensor data fusion, GEDI is enabling higher resolution and wall-to-wall mapping, monitoring and modeling of ecosystem structure and fluxes. This session invites submissions on the calibration and validation of GEDI mission data products, algorithm development, multi-sensor fusion, as well as the application of mission data products to geodesy, carbon stock and flux assessment, habitat and biological diversity.
