GEDI Begins Its Next Journey
On March 17th, 2023, the GEDI mission embarked on its next journey. GEDI completed its first four years on orbit and is heading into storage on the ISS. GEDI was powered down at 01:58 UTC. The video below shows GEDI being moved from EFU-6 to EFU-7, where it will remain in hibernation for approximately 13-18 months.
GEDI will be back at its original location in the fall of 2024 and collecting data again, potentially through 2030, starting a new epoch of ecosystem structure observations. Congratulations to the entire GEDI team for an amazing first chapter and looking forward to the next! Read the statement from NASA here.
